•HOW YOUNG CAN STUDENTS START?

We get this question asked more than any other. There is no "correct" age to start - we offer programs for children as young as 5 years old. It is recommended your child attend a complimentary class where we will evaluate your child and advise you on a program that will be most beneficial. Call us for more information.

•CAN I REALLY DO THIS?

Many adults think martial arts is for the young athletic types. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We have students of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Over forty is common and some even in their fifties. We have adapted and modified our curriculum to meet the demands, yet deliver the desired benefits our students seek at any age.

•HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TRAIN?

The frequency of which you train depends largely on your present physical condition. We advise everyone to first consult their primary health professional before starting any of our martial art or cardio programs. Generally speaking, 2-3 times per week is enough to allow the average person to realize the physical and mental benefits of martial arts training. Many adults tend to overdo it when they first start --- not allowing their muscles to recover. If you've been inactive for some time, you need to start out slowly, 1-2 times per week, and work into 2-3 times per week as you gain strength and endurance.

•WHEN WILL I NOTICE ANY CHANGES?

Keep in mind that with the exceptions of lotto winnings or sudden physical or mental trauma, change is gradual in everything we do. Parents of young children under 7 will notice certain behavioral changes almost immediately, like the use of "sir" and "ma'am" and other politeness. More substantial changes will take place within the first six to nine months of training for all students regardless of age, such as physical changes in strength, balance, coordination, muscle-toning and weight control.

•DO YOU PARTICIPATE IN COMPETITION?

We do not encourage competition in the same sense as you would expect in other group sport activities. The atmosphere at our school is friendly and cooperative, it is a place for students to try new things without the apprehension competition brings.

•WILL THIS REALLY TEACH ME SELF DEFENSE?

We can teach you the physical techniques to defend yourself - you alone must believe you will execute them if you need to without hesitation. We teach age appropriate self defense to children under 13 which is different than what we teach adults. By participating in our martial art program and our fitness training programs, you will gain the strength, technique and confidence to defend yourself if the need should arise.
